Steroid alpha reductase is an enzyme in the male prostate. The fucntion of alpha reductase is to catalyze the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which then binds to a receptor and initiates development of the external genitalia and prostate. Though, further investigation is required on this matter, steroid alpha reductase may also play a role in determining blood pressure.
